Session 1 - June 15-16


Course A: Cartoon Time (Ages: 12-15)

Create an animated cartoon. Using Adobe Flash software students will learn the principles of animation and create their own cartoon clip. This very popular class gives young artists an opportunity to make their creative ideas come to life.

Course B: Flash Animation (Ages: 16 +)

Design and animate characters and environments. Students collaborate with a team to create an animated short. Using Adobe Flash software and the principles of animation artists will create personal animated shorts or work on a larger productions. This very popular class gives students the ability to create and animate their stories in a collaborative environment.

Course C: Visual Effects Intro (Ages: 16 +)

Create digital magic. Reality and fantasy collide as students learn the tools and techniques that post production professionals use to create visual effects for movies and television. Students will shoot their own footage and, using Adobe After Effects, put themselves in the action, whether it be walking on a distant planet or creating video clips of impossible magic tricks.

Course D: Flash Animation (Ages: 16 +)

Design and animate characters and environments. Students collaborate with a team to create an animated short. Using Adobe Flash software and the principles of animation artists will create personal animated shorts or work on a larger productions. This very popular class gives students the ability to create and animate their stories in a collaborative environment.

Course B: Flash 2D Gaming (Ages: 16 +)

Make your very own video game (similar to those found on Newgrounds and Armor Games). Using Flash CS6 and Actionscript, students create their own 2D worlds filled with original characters or pre-existing sprites. They determine their your own rules in a world that they create! No prior programming experience is necessary.

Course C: Maya Intro (Ages: 16 +)


Explore the world of 3D. Students are introduced to the principle of the 3-D production workflow using Autodesk Maya. They will use the tools in Maya to model, texture, light, animate, create dynamics, and render a short action sequence. Along the way, they will learn the concepts and principles of the 3-D workspace and how to unleash their creative ideas.

Learn animation tricks of the trade. Cutting edge of technology helps modern day animators cut down the time it takes to animate. Students will learn to pose and animate pre-made character rigs. Using Adobe After Effects, they will learn the latest animation processes used by industry professionals.

Session 4 - August 3-14

Course B: Digital Painting (Using Photoshop, Illustrator, and After Effects) (Ages: 16 +)


Using a variety of image references and concept sketches, you will design and create a matte painting in Illustrator and Photoshop and animated the matte painting in After Effects. You will become familiar with the requirements of photorealistic vs. stylized matte painting and gain a solid understanding of color and shading, values, perspective, scale, layering, and composition. You will also learn about camera movements and animation to make your matte paintings come to life. The sky is the limit!

Course C: Maya Jumpstart (Ages: 16 +)


Get ready for Exceptional 3D. Students coming into the Full Time program and especially those moving into their final year at EM have an opportunity to experience 3-D production workflow using Autodesk Maya. They will learn the basics of modeling, texturing, lighting, animation, dynamics, and rendering so as to quickly assimilate into the rigorous of the full-time classes.

Session 5 - August 17-28

Course A: Character Dev. (Ages: 16 +)


Make your characters strike a pose! Using a live model, students will gain an understanding of the principles of gesture, posing, anatomy, perspective, line, shading, and composition for developing their characters. They will create a library of character sketches that they will bring to life in Illustrator and Photoshop. Along the way, students will learn about photorealism vs. stylized character design and how to design, draw, and develop unique and memorable characters.

Course B: Advanced VFX (Visual Effects) (Ages: 16 +)

Get your VFX chops. Students that have taken the VFX summer class in the past or existing EM students that are serious about getting their skills up will delve into Silhouette, Mocha, and Nuke as they learn the professional pipelines used in today’s visual effects industry. Intro to VFX or previous VFX classes required.
